Le Ginestre (Grinzane Cavour - Cuneo)

We approach the winery Le Ginestre with the reverence you would use for entering a sacred place. Because here is where lies the history of Langhe and Barolo.

We are in Grinzane Cavour, a small town that was home to the historical figure Camillo Benso Conte di Cavour (the politician who laid the ground for the unification of Italy) who lived in the castle that still today dominates the hill and hosts the „Enoteca Regionale“.

When the estate of Count Cavour was sold the Audasso family purchased part of it and started the wine production. Today Barbara and Gian Luca Audasso run the winery.

We had the pleasure of talking a couple of times with Barbara and we were totally seduced by her irrepressible passion for this land.

Barbara told us how Le Ginestre purchased some important vineyards in the last years in some strategic hills of Langhe.

The most important one is definitely the vineyard in the precious Cru of Sottocastello di Novello at an average altitude of 400m above sea level. Here the sea marine sediment is ideal for the cultivation of fine, age-worthy red wines.

Another important step for the Le Ginestre winery was the acquisition of a vineyard in Montelupo d’Alba for the production of Nebbiolo and Dolcetto.

There is so much history to discover about Le Ginestre, but even more important is that this winery is totally focused on the future and the participation to The Green Experience guidelines (aimed at integrated productions attentive to environmental sustainability).
